That's the backstory. The current setup is that the Rams, in a very tough division, have a shot to win it all again this year. A very real window that might be starting to close. You get chances like this, you take them. The Rams had the #13 pick in this year's NFL Draft and with ballers like Makai Lemon still on the board, not to mention plenty of O line help and so on, it made all the sense in the world for McVay's team to address a position of need with their "win now" mindset.
That's not what happened. Yikes.
The Rams, feeling like they were playing with house money I suppose, after masterfully acquiring the #13 pick, TOOK A HIGHLY UNPROVEN SHORT QUARTERBACK WAY TOO HIGH. Ty Simpson will not start. Ty Simpson might cause Stafford to retire sooner than he otherwise would. Ty Simpson will not see the field this year. If he does he might very well suck.
This is the type of pick that can cause an organization to spiral into irrelevance. I don't get it. This is a career killer. Davante Adams is a year older. Nakua has off the field issues. Matt Stafford is in the twilight of his career. I firmly believe if the Rams had drafted Lemon they would deservedly be the Super Bowl favorites this year.
They blew it.
