DraftKings Best Ball is 20 rounds. By Round 17 or 18 the pickings are slim especially in late August when everyone knows everything about training camp and pre-season and rookie WRs and RBs are rising. Any RBs left by pick 200 or so are handcuffs at best (shoutout Samaje Perine but I digress) and will likely provide zeroes most weeks. The WR landscape is little better. QB? Only if you like the Browns. Yeah, no.

There are still viable tight ends available this late. Starters. For the longest time I was taking 3 tight ends at most. Sometimes two. I'm now becoming slowly convinced that you can take a tight end or two through the middle rounds, say Terrance Ferguson and Dallas Goedert or something like that, and then pepper TE late with two IF NOT 3 additional tight ends and cobble together a viable TE1 because surely one of the 5 can catch a TD week to week. Darren Waller is particularly interesting late considering the absolute state of the Carolina Panthers passing game. This strategy might not work, who knows, only one way to find out, but plenty of sharp people are playing best ball this way. If you miss out on the top 4 or 5 TEs I don't see much of a difference in waiting. And waiting. 

I love Best Ball. I am not an expert. But I love it. And I've done a ton of drafts this off-season on Draft Kings. Which means I've had plenty of time to look at what's available way late in best ball drafts. Like rounds 18 to 20. Some of these are names that get lost in the shuffle and you have to look for. Some linger in the 200s range. Some just go later than they should. Diamonds in the rough if you will. These are important picks that can win you money and shouldn't be taken for granted Let's get to it.

Honorable Mention - Terrance Ferguson

Ferguson was a rookie last year in a crowded Rams tight end room but showed flashes of legit big play ability. Now there's talk of him making a massive leap in Year Two in McVay's awesome offense. Pop quiz - who's the Rams' third wide receiver? Exactly. Davante Adams showed some signs of decline last year and isn't getting any younger. Yes Puka will get his but there's plenty of passing volume to go around and the Rams are favored to win the Super Bowl this year. Ferguson goes too early to be a true sleeper but he still goes way too late in the 190ish range. 

Keenan Allen - Allen isn't even on an NFL team at the moment and can be drafted in the last round of best ball drafts. I suspect he will end up with the Colts. He wasn't completely washed last year and has connections with the Colts coaching staff. Someone will pick him up and in a PPR heavy format like DraftKings there's still meat on the bone here. A great late round stash.

Devon Vele - The Saints 3rd WR is absolutely buried in the rankings on DraftKings and can be drafted round 20 no problem. Insane upside here and practically free.

Kalif Raymond, Zavion Thomas, Jahdae Walker - one of these 3 will be the Bears 3rd WR. This is an offense to invest in. Good luck figuring out which one. Raymond is the obvious choice, Walker flashed last year late and Thomas was drafted in the 3rd round of the real NFL draft and has legit speed. I personally like the upside with Thomas. None of them are regularly being drafted.

Tyquon Thorton - The Chiefs could add some WR depth but as of right now Thorton is their WR3. He get drafted late but is worth a reach imo.

Samaje Perine - Perine wasn't a total disaster last year. Chase Brown goes round 2. Perine is basically free and would plug in as a low-end RB1 if Chase Brown gets hurt. 

Carson Beck - hear me out. This probably isn't a good idea but if you start with two top tier QBs and need a 3rd one late..... Beck is going undrafted. Odds are good he will get a look later in the season. Will he be viable? Probably not. But he will be on the field and the Cardinals do have some weapons.

​Tua T - I believe Tua will be the Dolphins starting QB for as long as he stays healthy. He's going LATE in drafts. There's value here.
