“Advertising is the price you pay for having an unremarkable product or service.” -Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO Google didn't have to advertise en route to becoming an accepted verb, ala Xerox. Ever seen a TV ad for Gmail? Me neither. Facebook didn't have to advertise to get you to jump from Myspace and never look back. This doesn't just apply to the online world. You probably first heard about the iPhone through a local news story showing people waiting in line to get one. See also: The Toyota Prius, Nintendo Wii, 5 Hour Energy, etc. Instead of investing in mass advertising, invest in creating something worth talking about. Planning 01/15/2010
